Blakk Rasta Eyes Top Grammy Honors With “Salaga Soljah” Album

Ghanaian artist and outspoken broadcaster Blakk Rasta is making waves with his latest album, Salaga Soljah, a 20-track collection that has been hailed as both revolutionary and a rare musical gem. With this project, Blakk Rasta is making a strong bid for Grammy recognition.

Salaga Soljah, which took five years to complete, is a bold fusion of traditional African sounds and Reggae, a style Blakk Rasta has coined as Kuchoko.

The album features a blend of live instruments, combining both analogue and digital production elements, overseen by six renowned engineers and musicians from across the African continent.

Listeners are treated to a rich tapestry of sounds, with traditional African instruments like the talking drums, kora, calabash, kologo, bamboo flutes, and djembe bringing an authentic, cultural depth to the project.

In a recent appeal to his followers and the music industry, Blakk Rasta encouraged Grammy voters to consider Salaga Soljah for Best Reggae Album, describing it as “a unique blend of ancient African rhythms and Reggae.”

The album kicks off with “Sodom & Gomorrah,” a hard-hitting track that critiques societal corruption and calls for divine intervention.

Produced by legendary figures Zapp Mallet and Abe, this mid-tempo roots reggae tune has quickly captured the hearts of fans across Africa since its release in March.

Throughout the album, Blakk Rasta showcases his linguistic versatility, performing in ten different languages including English, French, Dagbani, Dioula, Gruni, Hausa, Amharic, Sisaala, and Jamaican Patois, demonstrating his broad cultural reach.

One standout track is “Barber Shop,” featuring Jamaican reggae star Anthony B, which delves into the relationship between a Rastaman and his barber.

The song echoes the spirit of Jacob Miller’s Tenement Yard, adding depth to the album’s diverse themes. Another notable track, “Be My Wife (BMW),” creatively blends salsa, Afrobeat, and dancehall, offering a vibrant mix of genres that’s sure to get listeners moving.

Salaga Soljah also boasts major international collaborations, including the track “Ohba Ohba Generation” with Ivorian-Malian artist Tiken Jah Fakoly, and “Zupilgu Chip” featuring Ghanaian musician King Ayisoba.

Blakk Rasta stirs controversy with “Kafan Kere,” a lighthearted yet provocative track that pokes fun at ethnic groups known for consuming dog meat, suggesting they try vegetarianism for a day.

With Salaga Soljah, Blakk Rasta continues to push musical and cultural boundaries, positioning himself as a serious contender for global recognition, including a coveted Grammy Award.
